Revealed, You Need a US Bank Account to Make Money Online!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Yes, it has been revealed, that you need a US Bank account to make and retain money online. No matter where you live, if you are going to make any amount of money online and be able to retain or save same, you need to have a US bank account.

We all have Bank accounts in our respective home countries or residences. No problem with that - it is easy to get. We need this to run our lives, do our day to day activities off-line and so on. It is no big deal or a problem. So it is until I got online to make money two years ago.

When you get online and try to make money, then you realize that the rule of the game will change for you. Suddenly you will realize that you need a US Bank account with a Bank over there in the US. Why? Because 80%-90% of the Internet businesses is controlled by people in US / Canada. That is the way it is for now and in the foreseeable future. And I doubt if the equation is ever going to change at all.

When you want to make money online, in most cases the buyer will be a US native who is either using PayPal or a Credit card to pay for things online. You have got to hook up with PayPal by opening an account with them to receive your payments from other PayPal users. But PayPal only allows people from about 50 countries of the world to use her services. In other words, you can not open an account with them if you are not from these 48-50 countries. Then you realize you are stuck.

What is the alternative if this is your situation? Get a Merchant account or a third party payment processor to take credit and debit cards payments for you. From our earlier equation, 80%-90% of the time, the guys will be in the US. When it is time for the card company to transfer your money to you less their charges, you are going to receive a check which might take 2-4 weeks to get to you, depending on your location. You get the check, assuming you are lucky it did not get lost in transit, and deposit the same with your Bank in your home country. Your bank sends the check for collection in US - another 2-4 weeks. In US, your funds get cleared in 2-3 business days. Then you get your credit. Now your Bank will charge you about $25 - $45 for the check: remember they have to pay DHL / FedEx to transport your check along with other documents, plus they are in business. Get it?

Now for all they care, your check may be for an amount of between $100 to $200, especially if you are just starting out. If you get 10 - 20 checks in a year (yes you can be getting many checks from various affiliate programs) you might find yourself paying $250 - $900 for the year.

Now compare yourself with someone with a US Bank account. He gets paid by what they call ACH (Automated Clearing House) system. This is just an electronic fund transfer system initiated by individual account owners in US to pay others within a network of some banks in US / Canada. This takes just 2-3 days and bang, your money is in your US bank account. It is mostly free to go. In some case you pay a token. I pay $3 to receive ACH into my US Bank account. I live in Africa and I have access to my funds by use of the Card issued to me by the US bank. I can withdraw money daily at the ATM in my country, no problem! My problem is to make the money go into my US bank account:-

Also I can use my Card to buy things online, a privilege not enjoyed by many especially in the developing and under-developed countries.

Now you can see that it is a must for you to have a US bank account if you want to make and retain money from the Internet. But getting one is one of your greatest nightmare as a non-resident.

A non-resident refers to the non-US citizens, having no residential base in the country. It is generally put in to the use by the country’s banking sector.

The banking laws as it concerns a non-resident is very strict. It is almost impossible if you do not know how to go about it. The thing is complex and complicated and most Banks will just avoid doing this for non-residents. For them it is a mine field which only a few have mastered. I spent 4 years researching this after I found myself in the above situation earlier mentioned. In my case I even had money trapped with PayPal, after opening my account in PayPal with a US mailing address (perfectly legal).

Now let us look briefly at how you can set up a US Bank account as non-resident of US.

First option is that you set up a company, incorporate one and have an office presence in the United States. Very expensive option you know. How many of us can afford this?

Second option is have someone do it for you for a fee ranging from $400-$800. Expensive also.

Third option is buy the info. They are a few good Reports that will show you how to do this by yourself. The price for the Reports ranges from $20 - $97. This was the option that I used to get my own US bank account.

Whichever option that you decide to follow is entirely up to you.

You can do some searching at a place like Google.

You could pay for the information or get a company or someone to do it for you at a fee. It depends on you and your pocket.

You need not to incorporate a US Company before you can get a US Bank account. That is an expensive approach.

So go ahead and get your own US Bank account now. Do not wait until tomorrow as the laws are constantly changing. What is possible today may not be possible tomorrow. ACT fast. Good Luck.

Common Search Engine Principles

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Search engines will be your primary assistants in the internet, to satisfy your queries. As every one is familiar with, search engines are used to list the websites, which are appropriate to provide information about the key word phrase. In the world of internet marketing, every websites developers need their website to be listed top positions of search engine results and adopt search engine optimization techniques to optimize the websites according to the search engine requirements. However to start with optimization, primarily you have to be aware about the common search engine principles, which will detail about the basic working pattern of search engines.

Search engines are computer programs, created to find out particular web sites from the millions of websites present in internet. There are many types of search engines, such as crawler based, human based and hybrid. In crawler based search engines particular programs for the searching process, whereas, for human based search engines such as directories and DMOZ, human editors will list out the pages, according to the relevancy of the content. In hybrid search engines, crawlers may be used for the search, but, human editorial intervention will be present. Out of the three, programmed search engines are more common and their principles are quite different from human searches.

The most common principle of search engines is that their language will be HTML, and all the information will be coded in HTML codes. The web server will be entry page of the search engines. And, a specific input area such as box is present in the particular HTML page to enter the key word phrase. The crawler based search engines will use specific algorithmic programs to locate and list the pages. Even though the basic components will be same, the grouping of the specific algorithms will differ according to the search engine.

Spiders or robots will be the primary searching algorithms for search engines, which identifies the web pages. It will identify the web pages in its HTML source tags, and it differs with a browser for not having any visual components such as texts or graphics. Crawlers are used to find out the documents in the links prescribed in the web pages. Indexing is the next phase, in which the web pages will be listed according to their characteristic features such as text, HTML tags and other specialties. The indexed pages have to be stored for the search engines, and databases are the common store houses of the web pages. The result pages will then rank the priority of the web pages, according to the various factors of consideration in a search engine listing. And, the viewer can see the results in the display pages of the web server in HTML visual version.

How To Find The Perfect Rental Unit

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

This 4 step guide to finding the perfect rental unit is quick and easy to understand. Learn how to structure your search in a way that will be most effective for the time invested. Come out ahead in your search for the perfect new home rental!

Let’s get started!

1.Time Factor

Your quickly come the to the realization that most landlords/managers will require a one year lease. Is one year too long? If so, consider a sublet or a month to month lease arrangement. You should also ask what the penalty for leaving early would be.

Money Factor

Take a look at your current situation. Do you need a roommate? Do you want a roommate? Whether or not you should have a roommate will determine how you will find an apartment. If you are moving out with a good friend, be prepared for a higher level of confrontation in your new arrangement. It’s sometimes mutually advantageous to find a stranger with a solid job and good references then an old friend. Having a roommate has it’s obvious benefits. You’ll save money, have company and share the work of cleaning up (hopefully).

Children Factor

Do you have kids? It would be sad if you found the perfect location to live in and then you find out your little rug rat does not have a friend. Research the neighbors and find out where they’re at with having kids. Ask the contact people I your local classified section about the children in the area or go online and browse through listings.

Necessary Documentation

You may notice that several apartments, townhouses and houses will be taken on their first day of being advertised. It’s recommended that you start your search no later then 3 weeks in advance. In order to be the early bird bring the following material:

Two Recent Bank Statements or Pay Stubs Last years tax return Letter of employment Letter of reference from a previous landlord Tape Measure Checkbook Pen and Paper

Many city’s throughout North America are experiencing saturated rental markets. The best way to get ahead of the crowd is to be the one person that is prepared. Many rental managers and landlords respect people that have all their documents readily available.

Great Technical Writing: Banish These Two Attitudes

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Overview

Incomplete User Documents disappoint your Readers. Two attitudes of many Technical Writers result in incomplete User Documents. These two attitudes are:

. “Everyone Knows That”, and

. “The User Can Figure It Out”

This article describes these attitudes and presents methods for overcoming them. The result is more effective User Documents and more satisfied Users.

1. “Everyone Knows That”

The “Everyone Knows That” attitude makes assumptions about your Reader’s knowledge. These assumptions cause your Reader grief.

Here’s an example of a possible “Everyone Knows That.” Do you know this:

Tomatoes. Most of us keep them in a refrigerator. However, storing them in a refrigerator will ruin the taste and nutrition of tomatoes. Tomatoes should be stored on a kitchen counter at room temperature, until they are cut. Once cut, tomatoes should then be stored in the refrigerator.

Does everyone know that? What do you assume that everyone knows about your product?

Sometimes your User Documents have to overcome previous User experience. Everyone thinks that they know how to properly (safely) shut off a barbecue…they don’t! The safe shutdown method is described in most barbecue User Documents, but it is not “advertised” (forcefully presented) in the User Documents.

It’s rarely true that “Everyone Knows That”. Just because you find something to be obvious, it does not mean everyone knows that something.

Here’s another example: How do you use a (combined product — ‘2 in one’) shampoo and hair conditioner? When shampooing, the shampoo is massaged into the scalp and immediately rinsed. When conditioning the hair, the conditioner is massaged into the hair, and remains on the hair for about two minutes. Now, what do the Users do for the combined product: rinse quickly, or let the product remain in the hair?

If you have the “Everyone Knows That” attitude when you write, you will tend to leave out needed material from your User Document. You will be doing a disservice to your Readers, and to your writing.

When in doubt whether “everyone knows something,” assume that they do not. Then,

. add some text explaining the topic, or

. tell the Reader where to find information that will explain the topic

Another Caution

Be careful about assuming that just because you explained something earlier in your User Document, your Reader will remember (or even have read) that information. It is rare for Users to read product documentation from start to finish.

When in doubt, add a reference to that earlier (background) information. Tell your Reader where to find it, or provide a link to it if your document is electronic.

Here’s a Thought Experiment: You are a User of products: How often do you read the product documentation from start to finish? If you always do, then ask some other people. (The great thing about this fact — that Users do not read the documentation from start to finish — is that it results in great flexibility in writing, formatting and editing the product documentation.)

2. “The User Can Figure It Out”

The User does not want to have to figure things out. The User is not reading a mystery novel or any other literature, where he/she wants to think about what is happening.

When someone uses your product, they are using it to meet their own needs. Your product may be central to your life, but to your Users, your product is a means to an end. And they do not want to have to decipher your product documentation.

Here’s a simple example. An e-mail tells you to call someone, but the message leaves out the phone number. You are expected to find the phone number on your own. The writer probably knew the phone number, but left it out. This “information oversight” gets expensive within a company when the e-mail is sent to many employees…each looking up the phone number on his/her own.

My favorite pet peeve: dates. Within recent memory we “survived” the Year-2000 transition. Yet we still write dates sloppily. We use “06″ for a year, instead of “2006.” When we see things like “07/11/04″ what is the date it is referring to? Is it November 4, 2007, April 11, 2007, or some other permutation of the numbers. The standards for the format of dates vary around the world. This is an example of both assumptions:

. “everyone knows that” (because there is a “standard” date format — there is not), and

. “the User can figure it out” (by seeing if my other dates provide clues to the format)

Don’t leave things for the User/Reader to figure out for themselves. It takes you only a few moments to include the material your Reader needs, and will save many Readers many hours in figuring things out.

Do It:

The writing literature tells you to “know your Reader.” Here is where you use that knowledge to improve your writing.

Either

. find someone who is like your intended Reader, or

. “do your best” to act like your intended Reader (you can do it if you need to)

In reading and evaluating the document, look for places where

. the writing assumes that “everyone knows that”

. the writing expects the Reader to be able to “figure it out”

. the writing makes jumps that your Reader cannot follow

. the writing makes the assumption that the Reader has read and remembered the entire document

Fix these places. It only takes a few words or sentences.

Everyone will be happier.

Ways To Hide Files On Your Computer

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

At some point in time, perhaps on your family computer, or your own computer, you will develop, collect, and store some important personal files on your hard drive that are strictly for your needs and purposes. These digital files may be so important to you, that under no circumstances, should anyone ever be able to access and see them. Some of these personal and business files may include documents, spreadsheets, emails, pdfs, text files, invoices, pictures, videos, and mp3s. These files may be so sensitive in nature, that you realize a need to prevent your spouse, kids, friends, or anyone for that matter, from viewing and accessing them. Perhaps, you may even need to hide porn or other explicit files. Just imagine if your spouse, or little ones at home, did a file search for all picture files and movies that were on your computer. Hopefully the results wouldn’t expose them to anything that you wouldn’t want them to see. Just imagine what could happen, if your children at home decided to fool around with your work and files that was listed in the recent documents menu. Ok, you get the point. And thus, this question is raised: How do I hide files and folders so that they won’t be discovered?

There are several ways in which you can hide files: You can put your files within a folder and apply the hidden attribute to the folder. You can bury your files deeply in subdirectories within subdirectories and hope that no one browses using Windows Explorer. You can change the file name and file extension of your file to something unique and strange, so that no one recognizes it, or you can purchase a file hiding software security application such as a folder lock or folder hider with password protection.

All of the above methods may be your solution to hide your important files. It simply depends on the significant importance of your files and level of security you need. You can apply the hidden attribute to a folder or file by choosing to do so within its properties. This is a simple way of hiding a folder in Windows XP. However, the files will still show up if a user sets the option “show hidden files and folders” within the folders options. Another way to hide a file is simply by concealing it by dumping it into a folder you think no one will ever access. However, you run the risk of it appearing within the results of a Windows Search and having it displayed in the documents list. Another way to hide a file is by renaming it along with its file extension so that no one recognizes it or is able to open it using its standard program. Although this method could possibly work for you, you would have to waste time renaming it and changing it back to the correct extension.

And thus, the following question is raised: What is a quick and sure proof way to hide files in windows so that they won’t appear within Windows Explorer and won’t be displayed in the results of a Windows search? Your solution: A simple and easy to use folder security software utility that will allow you to hide files and folders and make them reappear all with a simple hotkey. Supreme Folder Hider is such a solution that will save you time and will provide you with an extra added sense of security. Supreme Folder Hider prevents all file access from Windows Explorer, the command prompt, shortcuts, and most recently used document lists.

Student Savings: Save Paper, Save Money

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Did you know that North American academics are among the highest paper wasters in the world? If academics in China used as much paper as we do in North America, the world’s rainforest supply would be depleted within a year. You can choose to save paper, which is not only good for the environment, it’s also good for your wallet.

1. Double side everything.

Whether you are printing the prof’s powerpoint notes to take to lecture, or printing off an essay to proofread, always double side your paper. Keeping a tray of rough paper that you can print on the back of will definitely save you money.

And, as an added tip for printing off powerpoint presentation slides, try printing more than one slide per page. Often 8 slides per pages is a good size, but try to find the size that works for you.

2. Be creative.

It’s amazing how many handouts you get in class that you don’t even need. Perhaps the department requires that every single class hand out the plagiarism policy. Now you have five copies of the plagiarism policy, and nothing to do with them. Instead of simply throwing them out, you can also use this paper to print on!

Every department in a college has boards filled with paper. Often these are concert notices, upcoming conferences, or visiting lecturers. You can make it your job to help keep the departmental notice boards clean by taking down the notices that have passed their dates. You can then keep and print on this paper. Sometimes you get the best colours to print on this way!

3. Use a computer.

The more work that you can do onscreen, the less paper you will have to print. You will definitely have to print out your papers to do a final hard-copy proofread before you hand them in, but you don’t need to print out endless drafts of the same paper. Often, you can also email certain documents to your friends and classmates instead of printing them out. Instead of printing 30 handouts for your seminar presentation, email the handout to the class a few days before you present. This will save you the printing and photocopying costs. Be sure to email the handouts out at least two days before you present, however. You want to give your classmates enough time to read and print your material.

4. Work with your prof.

Some professors accept “green” submissions. (Here you can think of green as in saving the environment, and green as in saving you the cash in your wallet). This means that they will accept work that is printed off doublesided, or on the backs of different work. You should always ask before you submit your essay, however. Whatever the prof wants is paramount. Also, if you are giving the prof work with stuff on the back, make sure that it is something you don’t mind your professor seeing! Some professors also permit electronic submissions, which will also save you paper and ink.

5. Shop around.

Sometimes you come across something that you absolutely must photocopy or print. Check out the area around the university for the cheapest printing and photocopying. It probably won’t be on campus, and it probably won’t be a big chain like Kinko’s. You’ll want to find a small photocopying place, and often you can get your copies for as cheap as 3 or 4 cents. Sometimes convenience stores even have well-priced photocopiers.

6. Think of subsidies.

Particularly if you are a graduate student, you might be able to print your work at school in the department for a greatly reduced rate, or even for free sometimes. Sometimes services on campus allow members cheap printing-places such as the Women’s Center or the International Student’s Committee. If you are considering joining, or if you are already a member, take advantage of what you can. The best way to find out about deals like this is to attend information fairs and to ask people who have been on campus for a few years.

7. Remember the costs.

Sometimes printing at home is cheaper. Sometimes printing at school is cheaper. And generally photocopying is cheaper than printing. Often you will have a choice of what way to get your material printed, so choose the best one. And remember: you don’t have to always print on white paper. Plain lined paper (even the cheap stuff) prints fine on a computer as well.

You can save yourself money, and feel good about saving the environment by saving paper. It’s just one way to minimize the costs of your already expensive education.

What Are Fonts And Their Type With Relation To The Registry

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Fonts are the typeface that can be reproduced on the screen and printed on paper. A font is actually the design on the letters of the alphabet and the type is the size of the font.

You would be surprised to know that fonts and registry cleaner have an association. A font is a set of characters of the alphabet in a single typeface. This means that all the letters of the alphabet as well as the numbers will have the same basic design even though the size may change. In the beginning there were the bitmap fonts that were used on windows and Macs. These fonts had a drawback, they could not be enlarged because they would break up and look horrible when printed. Then Apple and Microsoft came up with the ‘True Font’ type that we use today. These fonts and their type can be reduced and enlarged a great deal and still appear normal without getting the jagged edges the bitmap fonts would produce. There are the ‘bitmap’ font type, the ‘true’ font type and ‘true type rasterizer’ font type that are largely used today. All the fonts are entered into the registry of a system and from here they are linked to the documents that are using them.

When we download fonts and storm them on the system for future use the registry makes an entry of where the fonts are located. One font will be related to one type. There are thousands of fonts such as times new roman, trebuchet. Let us understand the difference of font and type. While ‘Times New Roman’ will be the font the type will be the size of the font, which may be any number. The basic rule is the larger the number the larger is the size of the font. When the user formats the text the program refers to the registry to understand what type to apply to the font that has been chosen. The end result can be a great looking document.

Many fonts are downloaded from the Internet. These fonts are constantly changed and their links are disrupted. These disrupted links need to be cleaned or removed from the registry as and when they get redundant. A good windows registry cleaner will do a great job on registry cleaning. Windows XP registry cleaner is a free registry cleaner and can be downloaded from the Internet directly to your system. Many registry cleaners such as PC Mantra’s registry cleaner are tried and tested to be great registry cleaners. They check the system thoroughly and do not remove any links that may in any way have some utility on the system. Many times users download trial versions of fonts. These fonts may be useful for some time and they store links to the site they were downloaded from. This clutters up the registry and slows down the system drastically.

A free windows registry cleaner will scan the registry for such links and fonts and remove them if they are present after the designated date. In this way the free registry cleaner will clean the registry and make the operating system more efficient and fast.

Offshore Panama Bank Accounts - Open In 5 Days

Friday, March 14th, 2008

You can obtain a Panama Bank Account without having to come to Panama!

Documents Required - A copy of a Passport, letter of reference from a recognized bank that is able to send and receive international wire transfers and a letter of reference from an attorney, accountant or company you do business with on their letterhead. Any bank in the modern world using the international wire system will require at least this much documentation from a foreigner opening up a bank account in their jurisdiction. For Bank Secrecy information and corporate privacy read below.

Panama Banks - Panama banks do open offshore bank accounts. Panama asides from being the number one retirement haven in the world is also the world’s foremost tax haven and offshore bank accounts in Panama are the most coveted in the world today. All the banks we use have online banking including sending of international wire transfers, checking of balances, history and other information. You can get an ATM Debit card that is good worldwide for ATM withdrawals and it works for some Point of Sale Purchases. We work with several different banks and savings and loans in Panama. We do not discuss names of banks until after a person becomes a paid client, and all the required documents have been provided, please do not ask. Same applies to sending out bank forms, signature cards, etc. We have a list of banks that we have a working relationship with where we are able to have accounts opened without the need for the parties to come to Panama. Some of these banks are large multi-national conglomerates with assets in the 100 Billion Dollar Range and others are small Panama only Banks that offers a more personal touch and banks with everything in between. We have never had a customer leave us because we could not get them an account with a bank or savings and loan they felt was not suitable. Savings and loans in Panama insure account balances up to $10,000 through the National Bank, something like the FDIC in the USA but with lower insured amount. We can normally have an account opened within 5 working days of the receipt of our fee and the required documents.

The Process - Making a trip to Panama is not necessary. Panama Banks never accept cash to open an account. Some customers wish to come to Panama to meet the bank, etc. This is fine but we will NOT introduce a person to any bank until after they are a paid up client and we have done our due diligence having their reference letters, passport copy etc. The banks rely on the law firm to do the required due diligence in the area of know your customer which is the same as required by the banks. The banks in Panama have no shortage of customers since a Panama Bank Account is the most coveted in the world right now. The banks do not wish to have potential customers contacting them directly before the law firm has completed their due diligence. The banks are not fond of foreigners calling on the phone about opening up an account. If you are coming to Panama which again is not necessary, we suggest you do the formation of the corporation or foundation before you come and we can get the bank account approved by the new account committee before you arrive so basically you just meet the bank manager, sign the forms and signature cards and then are free to depart and your account should be functional the next day. We can assist with corporate rates on a hotel; get you an English speaking driver with a car, etc. Some banks will provide an ATM card with the account immediately. The ATM card is usually in the name of the corporation if it is a corporate account. Some do not want such an ATM card because the corporate name can have associations regarding the wire system from wires being sent and received and thus violate their privacy. This brings up the option of a third party ATM card that has numbers only, no account name at all on the card. There is also the option of having a MasterCard or Visa debit card (not credit card) for an extra fee. The Visa or MasterCard debit card also can function as an ATM card.

Stock Trading - The savings account can also be directly tied to a stock trading account. This allows one to trade online around the world. There is a $50,000 minimum to open such an account. The clearing agent is top drawer. We can also arrange for you to have a separate brokerage account in Panama with minimums as low as $25,000. USA passport holders can not have a personal stock trading account - corporate or foundation only.

Type of Account - Offshore bank accounts in Panama can be opened for a corporation or a foundation. Accounts can be opened for personal, corporate or for a foundation. USA passport holders can not open personal bank accounts unless they actually reside in Panama and can document this. We always suggest the offshore bank account in Panama be opened using a Panama corporate structure. This way when wires are sent or received it can not be seen that you are the person(s) behind the corporation. When you use an anonymous Panama Bearer Share Company the ownership of the company is not recorded in any registry or public record database so no snooping entity can determine who is actually receiving the funds, and this makes for very private personal banking. Recently there was a scandal in the media where it came out that the USA was monitoring SWIFT wire transactions for some years. Monitoring a wire transaction to an anonymous corporation is fairly meaningless since nothing is known about the ownership of the corporation. If the sending entity was also an anonymous corporation that would be a good working definition of a dead end both ways. We always advise against personal offshore bank accounts in Panama for these reasons in addition to the fact that a corporate or foundation bank account greatly enhances asset protection but will work on personal accounts at the client’s request. We can not get personal bank accounts for USA residents/citizens. As an additional option one can open an offshore Panama bank account using a Panama Foundation which is also anonymous.

Bank Account Signatory Verification - You or your designated signatory(s) will be the only person(s) with access to your offshore Panama bank account. What we do is have the bank opened up as a zero balance account; no money is in the account. Before you load the account with any funds we will show you how to securely contact the bank by phone and verify that no one else can sign on the account or otherwise access the bank account. After the account is funded online banking information will then be emailed to you directly and you reset the password securely online immediately upon receipt. ATM card will be sent by courier directly to you.

Number of Bank Accounts - You can open up more than one Panama offshore bank account in different banks using different corporations or same corporation or a corporation and a foundation. Sending funds from one corporation or foundation to another for payroll, purchases or other reasons can easily be accomplished using the ACH system in Panama which 30 large banks use. This is not a wire transfer and the data is covered by Panama Bank Secrecy laws and only entities covered by these laws have the data. It takes one to two days for the ACH transfer to be completed and the cost is about $1.00 per transaction.

Panama Bank Secrecy - Panama has strict banking secrecy laws better than any jurisdiction we know of. Panama has no tax treaty with any other country. This is not the case with tax havens like Switzerland, Belize etc. who do get into tax treaties with numerous countries. Tax treaties are the legal basis for government fishing expeditions. Fishing expeditions do not happen in Panama. If a bank employee or officer violates the bank secrecy laws they can go to prison, get fined and of course you can sue the daylights out of the offending bank. The bank secrecy laws are statutory in Panama. Did you know for instance that the so called bank secrecy laws of Belize are not actually written in their law books? Panama is the best jurisdiction for asset protection. Panama Bank Accounts are most desired bank accounts in the world today. The banks are solid, the US Dollar is the national currency of Panama (we can also get euro accounts), the government is stable and the corporate privacy, bank secrecy and attorney privacy is the best there is anywhere.

Click here for a complete list of countries with tax treaties with the U.S.

Violating Panama Bank Secrecy - Getting into your bank records in Panama would require a court order from a Panama Court which is a seldom seen event, very rare and is usually reserved for simply awful large scale bad guys engaged in one of these four areas of criminal activity: child pornography, narcotics trafficking; real terrorism and serious real large money laundering (think millions of dollars). In the most unlikely event such a thing did happen here is how it would take place. The country requesting the information would first need to have a criminal case on file in the national criminal courts of their country against the persons in question that hold the bank accounts and they would have to have specific bank accounts in their request not a fishing expedition. Requests can only be made by a national government, not a city, county, state, territory, parish etc. The request must be based on an existing open criminal case in their national courts. Through diplomatic channels they would make a formal written request for the information with numerous details provided. They would have to show why they need Panama to supply this information and that it is not obtainable any other way and is also necessary for them to make their case and that the information contained in the bank records would be what they need to make their case and why this is so. Panama has the right to ask questions, get clarification and even refuse the request. These requests can go back and forth and years can go by before the information is provided or a formal denial of the information is made. Based on the request as a legal option available to them Panama could seize the bank records not turning them over to the requesting government and conduct their own investigation first if they felt Panama law was violated and thus deny the request until their investigation was completed which could take years. Of course various statues of limitation could expire before this information request process was completed. Panama does not get interested in Fiscal offenses especially those pertaining to taxation. Taxation violations in Panama are only civil offenses and the offense needs to be a crime in Panama for the bank secrecy to be violated not just a crime in some other jurisdiction. Panama Bank records being turned over to another government for civil offenses (bankruptcy, family court, divorce, civil judgments etc.) is something not seen in Panama. Remember if Panama was not private and protective there wouldn’t be 135 large international banks in Panama many with their own 40 story modern skyscraper and 400,000 corporations domiciled in Panama. Each corporation pays an annual tax of $300, which brings the total revenue from corporations to $120,000,000. In addition to this revenue there is additional revenue in the form of fees to nominee directors, resident agents, associated bank accounts, etc. The net revenue from the Panama Canal is only about $335,000,000. This is for a country of 2.9 million people. Today roughly 20% of the Panama work force is employed by the banks. Most people do not know this but Panama is a neutral country. Welcome to Switzerland’s replacement which is going to be around for many years to come.

Collecting Civil Judgments - If you are worried about a judgment from a civil court being levied against your Panama bank account, relax. If the civil offense in question occurred outside of Panama and the order was not from a Panama court it would most likely get kicked out of Panama court if the other party was even determined enough to try and collect the judgment in Panama. The court in Panama would probably rule that they have no venue or authority over the matter since it was a not a dispute about events that occurred in Panama and thus dismiss the case. The other side would post money for court costs and incur high attorney fees after being told their prospects for success were either extremely slim or none. This is something rarely seen in Panama. In Panama your personal assets and debts are not the same as those of a Panama corporation or a Panama foundation so levying a civil judgment against your corporation or foundation is a somewhat difficult matter with again an unlikely chance of success combined with court waits of years and high legal fees. Remember ownership of Panama Corporations and Foundations is anonymous so how would a financial enemy even know the corporation or foundation was yours and even if they could prove this (how they could prove this is an interesting question unless you told them it was yours) there are still massive legal hurdles to overcome to show you made a fraudulent conveyance to avoid creditors. There is a three year window concerning fraudulent conveyance and the court wait could easily be five years which is another not insignificant hurdle to overcome. What if you do not own the Panama Corporation, a Panama Foundation owns it and a Panama Foundation really has no owner, or we could insert another entity to own the foundation, etc. etc. etc. Panama is not a litigious society and aggressive civil collection practices from other countries are seriously discouraged.

Panama Taxes - In Panama income tax offenses are all civil. Panama has no taxation for offshore income so unless you operate a brick and mortar business in Panama. Your income will be offshore derived and not taxable at all even if you have a Panama Corporation, Panama bank account, office address in Panama, phone in Panama, web site located in Panama, etc. If all your income is offshore derived you do not even need to file a Panama tax return. Panama also has no capital gains if you like stock trading and this of course means your bank interest is not taxed either. Panama has no probate, no inheritance, and no estate taxes.

Driving Tips in Denmark

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Danish road rules

Drivers must be at least 18 years and always be carrying their full, valid license and insurance documents with them in the car. Rental documents, international driving permits, passports - or ID cards - for tourists will suffice. The Danes drive on the right and seatbelts are mandatory for all passengers.

Tourists bringing their own cars into Denmark need to be aware of certain requirements. Drivers must carry a red warning triangle in case the car breaks down, have the letters of their country of residence on the rear of the car, or the new-type Euro plates, and right-hand drive cars need to have headlamp deflectors fitted.

Danish traffic police are very strict and on-the-spot fines for most motoring offences are common. This especially applies to speeding motorists, where radar traps are frequently used to catch people out and hefty fines implemented. Drink drivers are also harshly dealt with - the maximum permissible blood/alcohol level is 0.5mg/ml.

Danish road network

Newcomers to Denmark will be surprised at the high quality of the roads here. Although there are only three main motorways, they cover the essential parts of the country and many secondary roads are as good as motorways. Motorways carry the European numbering system, denoted by the letter ‘E’, with E47 serving Copenhagen, the E20 running west from Copenhagen past Odense and onto the mainland and the E45 running north to south through the mainland.

All roads are free to drive on in Denmark, including the motorways, with the exception of the two major bridges, the Oresund and Storebaelt Bridges.

Parking

Parking can be tough in Copenhagen, where vehicles are only allowed to park for an hour in designated spots on the streets and only after the purchase of a disc - bought from petrol stations, post offices or tourist offices. Other cities are slightly more forgiving although go over time, forget to pay or park illegally and look out!

Danish speed limits

Urban areas: 50kph/31mph
Rural roads: 80kph/50mph
Motorway: 110kph/68mph

Radar traps are common in Denmark and speed limits are strictly enforced with offenders usually facing hefty fines.

Danish fuel costs

Prices in krone (KR) per litre:

Unleaded 95: 10.35 kr/l
Unleaded 98: 10.64 kr/l
Diesel: 8.65 kr/l

Unleaded petrol (all grades), diesel and LPG are all available in Denmark. Lead replacement fuel is a substitute for leaded fuel, which is no longer sold in Denmark. Most stations accept credit cards but automatic pumps generally only accept domestic debit cards.

Danish road safety
The national breakdown service in Denmark, known as Falck, is 112 and they can be called from any of the emergency motorway telephones 24 hours should you break down - all other essential services are also available on this number including police, fire and ambulance. For non-emergency car problems, Forenede Danske Motorejere (FDM) is the Danish motoring organisation who can provide assistance.

Even with perfect roads, accidents do happen and tourists should remain extra vigilant, particularly when near large cities during rush hour and in inclement weather.

Thinking about a Revocable Living Trust?

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Common reasons for creating a revocable living trust include avoiding probate, reducing estate taxes (both of which can mean losing thousands of dollars), appointing guardians for minors, establishing greater control over distributions to young beneficiaries, lessening the likelihood of a successful contesting of your will, and easing the process for appointed persons to manage your assets during an incapacitation.

You must determine if the benefits of a revocable living trust outweigh the costs of having one prepared. Your costs can be hefty if several considerations aren’t examined.

First, check with local attorneys and estate planners to determine what average estate value leads to probate in your state. Probate often averages between 3%-10% in attorney and court costs (it is not a tax). Will the price of a trust be more or less than your potential probate fees? Many estate-planning firms can provide affordable attorney-prepared documents for less than $1,000 -a cost much lower than most probate fees.

Second, who will prepare your trust? Sources include self-made trust kits available over the Internet, legal document preparers, paralegals, and attorneys. Should your document not be prepared properly, it can be contested successfully. An experienced planner will ask enough questions to ensure that you’ve minimized estate taxes and set clauses in place, such as distributions to special needs beneficiaries, care for pets and qualifications for beneficiaries.

Third, and most important, know what must be done after you have signed your trust. Many trusts include one page that assigns all property without a title (e.g., silverware, jewelry, and art) to your trust. This page does not cover assets that have a title, such as houses, vehicles, and bank accounts. These assets must be re-titled in to the name of your trust. Often, people forget and/or procrastinate this important step regarding transferring (funding) their most valuable assets, which then remain subject to probate.

When you interview potential estate planners, listen closely to their descriptions of the estate planning process and choose a planner who stresses the importance of transferring your assets to the trust. While funding your trust does take time and legwork, it often is as simple as allowing the bank, DMV, or broker to copy trust documents and sign a few forms. If you have property a new deed for each must be prepared. A good estate planning firm should be able to provide new deeds for your existing properties at the time of your trust signing.

Regardless of the resource(s) you choose to set up your plan, a revocable living trust can protect your assets and achieve your objectives by making sure that every step is carried out in full. Making these arrangements could be the most important decision you make regarding management of your estate to ensure you and your family’s well-being when you’re no longer able to direct that financial course.
